Neck of the Woods

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts will host the Neck of the Woods “Youth Edition” on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. The event will showcase a variety of talented performing artists - all under the age of 21. 

Area residents are invited to come out, enjoy a truly unique and entertaining community event and show your support for our young local artists. Refreshments will be available for purchase, but no alcohol will be served.


October 12 Performance Lineup

Act 1 - Tyler Butler-Figueroa - Violin Player

Tyler Butler-Figueroa is an 11 year old violinist who has been playing the violin for 3 1/2 years. Tyler is a 5th grader at Walnut Creek EMS S.E. Raleigh, in the A.I.G. class and in the Leadership Academy. Tyler is a Leukemia Survivor, diagnosed when he was 4 1/2 years old and now 3 1/2 years in remission. Tyler's music genres include: Pop, Classical, Gospel, Folk, Memorial, Soft Rock, Nigerian, Spanish, Hip Hop, R&B, Country and Bollywood. Besides playing the violin, Tyler enjoys his role as big brother to his little brother Adam who is 6 years old. Tyler loves to ride his bike, learn Spanish and practice on the keyboard. Act 2 - Abby Lee & Lace Massey - Stay @ Home Dad Band, vocals with accompaniment (1 Guitarist/Singer & 1 Drummer/ Singer/Bassist)

Stay @ Home Dad is a two-man band five years in the making. Abby Lee and Lace Massey met in a glee club at local music school, Music Academy South, and became best friends very quickly. Abby Lee is the lead guitarist and pianist. She has been studying music for most of her life and has a passion for the production of it. Abby was born in New Hampshire and later moved with her family to the Raleigh-Wake Forest area and has lived here ever since. She's a senior attending AP and Honors classes at her school, Wakefield High School. Abby is also the president of her school's GSA. Lace Massey is the lead drummer and bassist. She took piano lessons at a young age and her love of music blossomed from there. Lace graduated high school with Honors last semester after homeschooling for most of her life. She now attends classes at Wake Tech North. Abby and Lace are both singers and song-writers and have collectively written many songs together. They look forward to playing a couple of those songs tonight as well as a cover of a song from a band they love. Enjoy the show! 


Act 3 - Savannah Rowlette - Singer (Broadway musical hits and an original song)

Savannah is a senior at Wake Forest High School and is very active in Chorus and Theater.  Late this summer Savannah returned from a two-week trip to England and Scotland where she performed with her Theatre Troupe at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest performing arts festival in the world! Earlier in the summer, Savannah had the honor of being accepted into, and attended, NC Governor’s school for Choral Music at Meredith College. Savannah’s love for drama and musical theater started early on in elementary school and she has developed her arts throughout the years with vocal training, acting classes, improv troupes, songwriting, summer music programs at ECU and more!  The project she is most excited about right now, is putting on productions of an original musical called Camp Crookline.  Savannah and her sister Sydney co-wrote this full-length production and all the original music with their songwriting class, and mentor Carrie Marshall, at Moonlight Stage Company in Raleigh. They have cast the show and are directing, and starring in, the productions that will take place November 1 and 3 at the WFHS auditorium.


Act 4 - Durham Jazz Impressionists (quintet, instrumental Jazz Standards and Original Compositions)

The Durham Jazz Impressionists is a quintet made up of high school jazz players who have been playing jazz since middle school and have performed for the last three years at the Sharp 9 gallery as part of the Durham Jazz Workshop directed by Dave Finucane. The Durham Jazz Impressionists currently includes Luca Colonna, Toby Falvo, Fred Larsen, Tim Rinehart, and Adithya Vaidhyan. Each of these young musicians has performed at a regional, state, and national level. Some have played at Lincoln Center for the Essentially Ellington event, and some have played overseas. The Jazz Impressionists began making themselves known at their first official gig in March, 2018 at the Wake Forest Farmers Market and they continue to play at local events in and around the Triangle. In addition to playing jazz standards, these young musicians also play their own compositions. All of them love to perform and plan on pursuing a career in music.


Act 5 - Brooke Willse (Singer – Pop covers and a vocal with piano)

Brooke Willse is high-spirited 14 year old singer/songwriter from Wake Forest. She is a 9th grader at Wake Forest High School where she enjoys being a member of the choir and drama programs. She has been involved in theater and singing since the age of six, and has won numerous local talent competitions. Brooke was also privileged to have been selected for the North Carolina Honors Choir for the past two years. Additionally, she has been a National Anthem singer for the Carolina Mudcats for the past 4 years, and was honored to sing the Anthem at last year’s Wake Forest Fireworks Spectacular. Brooke also devotes time to sing in church as cantor, choir singer, and wedding singer. She is excited to be a part of the Neck of the Woods production for the second year in a row.

Presented and sponsored by ARTS Wake Forest, Neck of the Woods is a variety performance series featuring emerging local artists. Each show is different and may consist of several performing arts acts, including actors, dancers, musicians, comedians, writers and spoken word artists.
