Seats still available for Oct. 14 screening of “Etchings in Stone”

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre will host a special screening of “Etchings in Stone,” Sunday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, but a ticket is required due to limited seating. Tickets can be obtained by visiting www.wakeforestrencen.org/event/etchings-stone-special-screening.

Sponsored by the Wake Forest Purple Heart Foundation and the Town of Wake Forest, “Etchings in Stone” is a filmed play featuring Vietnam veterans and their families about the feelings and emotions evoked by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial or "The Wall" in Washington, DC.

Written by Wake Forest native and Vietnam veteran, Ron Harris, “Etchings in Stone” places the audience inside The Wall thereby offering them the unique ability to experience firsthand its impact on visitors. Not only can the audience hear what visitors to The Wall "say," they can also "hear" their unspoken thoughts.

According to Harris, “Etchings in Stone” is another step towards reassuring Vietnam veterans that they are not alone in their transition back to civilian life. The filmed play endeavors to accomplish this by addressing several Vietnam veteran issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), agent orange, friendly fire, survivor guilt, Prisoner of War/Missing in Action, the Amerasian issue, and the treatment of Vietnam veterans during their return to civilian life.

“Etchings in Stone” also explores the Vietnam War’s profound effect on friends and loved ones who stayed home, such as mothers and fathers, children, brothers and sisters, and wives and girlfriends.

Prior to and following the screening of “Etchings in Stone,” attendees are invited to visit the Renaissance Centre Arts Annex and view what is widely considered to be one of the most comprehensive displays of Vietnam War memorabilia in North Carolina. Indoor exhibits will include the field cross, MIA table, photos of service members on The Wall, medals, patches, gear and much more. Attendees will also be able to request and obtain information about individual service members on The Wall. Outdoor exhibits will also be offered, including a jeep and other military vehicles. The exhibit inside the Arts Annex will be available from 5:30-9 pm.
