Our September art exhibit will feature works by seven photographers: Tom McCabe (Coastal Light Photographic Arts, New Bern, NC); Michele Alias, Marlene Allen, Paul Atkinson, Frank Clemmensen, Rosa Dirrigle, and Lynne Feiss Necrason (Capital City Camera Club, Raleigh, NC).
Born in Chicago, IL in 1946, Tom is a retired US Marine who has travelled extensively. He is a Vietnam veteran and a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America. Tom is an award-winning photographer and is the owner of Coastal Light Photographic Arts.
Tom got started in photography as a boy, but never really got serious until buying his first 35mm camera in Vietnam in 1969. Though a more serious photographer after that, he never sat for any training of any sort other than to read a few books and magazines. When sent to Japan in 1997 he moved into medium format and ultimately large format photography. In 2007 he moved from film to digital.
Tom lived in Japan for more than five years total. He hopes to share his vision of the Japanese culture in silver gelatin prints printed in his personal darkroom, as he continues his journey of learning the art of photography in this month’s feature entitled “Japan in Black and White,” supported by the Craven County Arts Council.
The Capital City Camera Club is an organization of people who share a passion for the art and practice of photography. Michele, Marlene, Paul, Frank, Rosa, and Lynne have work that also captures moments from time spent in Japan to highlighting the beauty around our nation. For more information, please visit the Capital City Camera Club website.
Come join us for a special reception to honor our artists on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre Arts Annex located at 407 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest.
Explore the images and meet the photographers behind the lens. The reception is free and open to the public. All sales are through the artists. For more information, contact RC Art Liaison April Cannon at 919-435-9568.
